McKenzie Method®, also known as Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy® (MDT) is a comprehensive approach to treatment of the spine, consisting of three steps: assessment, treatment, and prevention. It is trusted and used by health care professionals and patients around the world. Research has shown the McKenzie assessment to be as reliable as costly diagnostic imaging (i.e., x-rays, MRIs) when determining the source of the problem and which patients will respond well to conservative treatment.
Assessment:
The initial examination serves to quickly and efficiently classify your condition so that an individual treatment plan can be created and/or the necessary referral to another medical specialist made.
Treatment:
Based on the assessment, you will be given simple, individualized exercises to perform. The goal is to educate you on the cause of your pain and why certain activities can worsen your symptoms, so you can decrease your recovery time and get back to the activities you enjoy sooner.
Prevention:
Once given the proper knowledge and tools, you are more aware of how to minimize the risk of reoccurring injury and symptoms of neck pain or low back pain.
McKenzie is beneficial for the following conditions:
This treatment method has proven effective for treating a wide range of musculoskeletal complaints in the spine, including sprain/strains, joint pain, disc herniations, and stenosis.
