Dry Needling

Dry Needling in Brookfield, WI

What is Dry Needling?

Trigger point dry needling is an evidence-based approach to treat myofascial pain and dysfunction. It is a valuable and effective way to deactivate myofascial trigger points or “muscle knots”. The practitioner uses a thin filiform needle to penetrate the skin and stimulate underlying myofascial trigger points, muscular, and connective tissues for the management of neuromusculoskeletal pain and movement impairments. Subsequently, the practitioner elicits a local twitch response in the muscle. Multiple trigger points in multiple muscles can be treated at each treatment. No medication of any kind gets injected during treatment, which is why it is called “dry”.

Is It The Same As Acupuncture?

Dry NeedlingChiropractors and physical therapists use dry needling specifically for treating trigger points in muscles. However, this technique should not be confused with a complete acupuncture treatment performed by a licensed acupuncturist. A traditional acupuncture treatment might yield a holistic benefit not available through a needling treatment.

Chiropractic & Physical Therapy

Our chiropractors, Dr. Zach Shiels and Dr. Jay White, are both certified providers. In addition, Dr. Peter Arndt, the physical therapist in the clinic, is also certified. Countless patients in our clinic have experienced the benefits of this treatment. Benefits range from pain relief to improved range of motion and gain of function. The course of treatment typically ranges from three to six treatments for most acute injuries. Some patients experience almost immediate and complete relief with just one treatment, however, this should not be the expected outcome.
