Choosing a Chiropractor in Brookfield, WI – FAQs

Not at all! We are a chiropractic and sports injury clinic that treats patients of all ages. Our chiropractors are experienced treating patients ranging in age from 88 years old to just 1 day old! Chiropractic care can have many health benefits for individuals of all ages. While techniques may vary depending on the age and presentation of the patient, we will tailor the treatment to your specific needs and provide you the individualized care that you deserve!

We do not accept most major insurance plans. However, we provide private-pay options for our patients with Health Savings (HSA) or Flex Spending (FSA) accounts, no chiropractic coverage, or high deductibles. Our goal is to provide the highest quality of care and treat the cause of your symptoms, not just mask the symptoms. We desire to provide transparency and simplicity in an often confusing world of medical and insurance billing. If you are interested in the private-pay rates please contact our office and we will gladly explain what you can expect to pay for a treatment visit.

1. Insurance based does not equal evidence based.

Over the past 10 years there has been a significant shift in chiropractic treatment options. If your chiropractor is following evidence-based guidelines they often incorporate soft tissue treatment (Graston Technique/IASTM, dry needling, cupping, ART etc.), exercise therapy, patient education, kinesiotaping, movement analysis, or injury reduction protocols.

Insurance companies often do not cover the modalities or treatments listed above. If an insurance company does cover the treatment, most of the time they cover only a small portion which leaves you with a large co-payment. Alternatively, they require large deductible amounts to be pain first, leaving you with most or all of the treatment cost.

Since we do not take insurance we are able to keep our costs low for you. Our treatment plans are not restricted by insurance companies. Your treatment is tailored to you, not to what your insurance company allows. This allows for truly personalized care that has better outcomes. Most of what current insurance programs cover are chiropractic adjustments. Although this is convenient for patients, it does not necessarily mean that adjustments are going to improve their symptoms.

Most research shows that chiropractic adjustments help with pain relief which lasts 1-3 days. The best outcomes from chiropractic adjustments are when other treatments are included such as soft tissue work and therapeutic exercise (or any of the others listed above). This shows that insurance based does not necessarily mean evidence based.

2. We keep our costs lower

By not taking insurance we can keep our overall treatment costs low. These costs are often lower than the out-of-pocket expenses associated with your insurance.

Since we provide more than just chiropractic adjustments, our single sessions might have a higher price tag than your quick drive-thru chiropractor. However, our model is set up in a way where you will require fewer visits, keeping the overall cost low. While the national average for chiropractic visits to treat an acute condition hover between 15-20 visits, our patients typically see results within 6-8 treatment. You’re better in half the time, limiting your out-of-pocket expenses. You will also learn the tools to help keep yourself out of pain and injury free, decreasing the likelihood of future visits. Our patients often find that the extra time is worth the extra upfront cost and gives them better long-term outcomes!

3. We have longer treatment times

Have you noticed that when you go to the doctor their treatment times are limited? Have you noticed less than 5 minutes per patient? Have you been to physical therapist or a chiropractor that hooks you up to a machine and leaves you? Or gives you an exercise sheet and has you do the exercises on your own?

Often treatment length is driven by the insurance companies. In order for the provider to get paid enough to pay their staff, facility lease, and stay open they need to increase their patient load – this leads to short treatment times with limited personalized care.

At Elite Sport & Spine our treatment times are 20 minutes for routine visits and 45-60 minutes for initial appointments. This treatment time is spent with your doctor. This gives your chiropractor a true understanding of your symptoms, treatment options, and goals. It allows us to follow your care plan and make sure you are improving each visit. It also allows us to modify our treatment according to how you react to our care. Most insurance-based chiropractors cannot spend this amount time with you.

The first visit will take approximately 60 minutes. We recommend that you come 10 minutes early to your first visit to ensure all paperwork is filled out correctly. This helps us stay on schedule, and respects your time as well as the time of our other patients.

We offer several different options for our patients. Our most popular option is the 20 minute treatment session, however we also have a 40 minute treatment session that focuses more heavily on rehabilitation and therapeutic exercises.

No, in general you do not need a referral to see a chiropractor or physical therapist. However, some insurance plans may require a referral for physical therapy, check with your plan to be sure.

You should wear or bring comfortable clothing to your appointment. Shorts, T-shirts, or tank tops are examples of preferred clothing.

Yes, chiropractic treatment is beneficial for children/infants as well as adults. Children can experience muscle or joint pain just like adults, and they often require fewer treatments because they tend to heal much more quickly.

Absolutely. In fact, due to various changes in the body during pregnancy, many pregnant women develop low back pain. If this applies to you, our chiropractors will develop a specialized treatment plan to effectively and safely treat your pain.

The chiropractors at Elite Sport & Spine provide an evidence-based foundation of musculoskeletal treatment options in addition to adjustments. By analyzing the way you perform certain movements (Functional Movement Screens), we are able to systematically and correctly identify the underlying cause of your pain and dysfunction. This allows us to create a comprehensive assessment and individualized treatment which will optimize our client’s ability to increase their daily function of life while resolving their condition as quickly as possible.

While medical doctors help with many problems/conditions, most do not have training in the conservative treatment of joint or muscle pain. Our doctors will assess and classify your reason for pain and symptoms, delivering the appropriate treatment or referring you to the appropriate provider.

Yes, our chiropractors work with many health specialists in order to provide the best possible care for each patient. We pride ourselves on receiving referrals from various practitioners and will refer the patient back once treatment is completed.

Four academic years (10 trimesters) of chiropractic college is required after completing a bachelor’s degree with a health care related emphasis such as pre-medicine, pre-physical therapy, sport & exercise science, or kinesiology. The classes taken in chiropractic college are often similar to medical school, however, the chiropractic student will spend more time on musculoskeletal anatomy, nutrition, and chiropractic technique whereas the medical student will spend more time on pathology and pharmacology.
