Dr. Shiels Inducted Into Athletic Hall of Fame
Elite Sport & Spine is excited to announce that Dr. Zach Shiels will be inducted into the Wisconsin Lutheran College Athletic Hall of Fame! The class of 2015 will be officially inducted on Saturday, October 17 as part of Hall of Fame Day when the Warriors football team hosts Rockford College at 1 p.m. at Raabe Stadium in Wauwatosa, WI. A formal induction banquet will follow at the Radisson Hotel Milwaukee West. The banquet begins at 5 p.m. with hors d’oeuvres followed by dinner and the induction program at 6 p.m. Tickets to the banquet can be purchased by contacting the athletics office at 414.443.8876.
Dr. Shiels competed for the Warrior men’s cross country and track & field teams from 2005-2009, setting 11 school records, winning 8 conference championships, receiving All-Region honors twice, and becoming the first student-athlete in program history to qualify for the NCAA Championships in 2008. Zach Shiels
Zach Shiels is one of the most decorated runners in Wisconsin Lutheran College men’s cross country history. Shiels was a four-time (2005-2008) all-conference selection while competing in both the Lake Michigan Conference and Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. In 2005, Shiels was named LMC Rookie of the Year. He was named All-Midwest Region in 2007 and 2008, and was named NACC Runner of the Year in 2008. Shiels became the first student-athlete in program history to qualify for the NCAA Championships in 2008, finishing 158th out of 278 runners. He holds five of the 10 fastest 8K times, including the top two fastest times in program history.
Aside from competing in cross country, Shiels also competed in indoor and outdoor track & field from 2006-2009. During the 2007 outdoor season, Shiels set the program record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. He went on to set three more program records in 2008 in the indoor mile and 3,000 meters, and the outdoor 5,000 meters. Shiels took down three more program records in 2009 in the indoor 5,000 meters and the outdoor 10,000 meters and distance medley. He was named Track Athlete of the Meet at the 2008 NACC Indoor and Outdoor Championships and 2009 NACC Outdoor Championships. Shiels holds the NACC Championships record in the 10,000 meters, which he set in 2008.”
