Update to Billing Policy
Dear Patients,
We wish to inform you of important changes to our clinic practice at Elite Sport & Spine, effective January 1, 2023.
Over the course of the past year, we have found ourselves at a crossroads. Due to decreasing insurance reimbursement and record inflation that has dramatically increased our cost of doing business, as well as an increasing time burden from documentation demands and insurance regulations, we are struggling to maintain the elite quality of care for which we strive. Insurance companies continue to increase their demands on providers while simultaneously decreasing or remaining stagnant on their reimbursement rate for care.
We have identified two valid options in our billing policy moving forward. The first is to continue as an in-network insurance provider, reduce the length of each appointment, and see more patients in an hour, which would ultimately decrease the quality of care we are able to provide. The second option is to step outside of the insurance game, discontinue our in-network relationship with insurance companies, and continue to provide the highest quality of conservative care to our patients without the demands and limitations that insurance companies increasingly place on treatment.
Our Two Billing Policy Options
After reviewing our options and our goals in patient care, having discussions with stakeholders, and prayerfully considering our decision, we find that the first option does not align with our mission and vision. Our mission is providing excellence in manual therapy and movement based treatment so our patients get out of pain quickly and are able to achieve their goals in sport and life. To this end, our average number of treatments to resolve an acute injury is 5.8, while the national average for chiropractic is just over 12 treatments. At Elite Sport & Spine, providing elite care means getting you better in less than half the time with a lower total out-of-pocket cost for you, so you can get back to crushing your goals. This is not something we are willing to compromise or sacrifice!
Therefore, we will no longer maintain an in-network status with insurance companies. What this means for you is that starting January 1st, we will not bill your insurance company directly. If you wish for a treatment to be processed by insurance, you will now be responsible for submitting on your own. We are happy to provide you with the documentation to do that. If you have out-of-network benefits, your insurance company may send you a reimbursement check directly.
We will be providing more information in the coming weeks and months but want to keep our patients informed as much as possible as this process unfolds.
Sincerely,
Zach & Beth Shiels
